Godslove Chinekwe is what one
can call a naturally talented artist. He has been drawing and
painting since he was just four years old.
Born in 1973 in Nigeria, Godslove studied architecture in the
university of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, where he had an
excellent opportunity of combining his love of architecture
with his natural gifts as an artist .
A prolific artist, his subject matter ranging from still life
to abstract. In recent years he has concentrated his talents
on themes that portray the love and strength that exists
within the African family. For example, in one of his recent
works namely “mama” he has successfully depicted the strong
paternal ties between the African mother and her child.
Godslove now resides here in the U.K. But, after leaving his
native home in Nigeria, spent some time in South America,
mainly Brazil, before setting his sights on a base in Europe.
Godslove has witnessed first hand what he calls the
“disappearance of the local lifestyles, cultures and beautiful
countryside” of his country. Through his work as an artist he
has tried to capture them on canvass as his own way of
artistic preservation.
Godslove believes “Art should have an emotion of it’s own.
Therefore, if by looking at my work you suddenly feel a strong
emotion of peace, love, joy or hope etc then I will have
achieved my aim”
