About Igor Prous

When I was a boy my Art Teacher would say; “an artist is not necessarily a person who paints, but a man who has looked at a sunset and says… what beauty! Listening to the teacher I could not help but feel there was something missing in that definition.

Many years later, while I was working on a picture, a woman, who was watching me work, pointed at a particular detail I was crafting and asked “what is that?” I explained to her what obviously, as I thought, could be seen. She said “If you can see it then make it possible for others to see what you can”.

That day for me was a revelation. The missing part of my teachers definition had been found and I understood that if one can see beauty with the inner eye and has enough love to remove, with a brush, the “wrappings” that hide the picture under the untouched surface of the canvass – then – one is truly an artist.
