From
a young age Lorraine Sadler's favourite past-time has been
drawing and painting. In 1996 she completed a BA Hons Degree
in Art and Dance at Roehampton Institute, London. She went on
to pursue a short career in the dance aspect of her
aspirations, but it wasn't long before she was beckoned back
to the drawing board, this time determined to make the
transition from hobby to profession.
By this
time Lorraine had discovered an immense challenge and
satisfaction in drawing animals, inspiration for which was
taken from watching and photographing animals in Britain's
Wildlife Parks. A passion for wildlife and conservation grew
after a trip to some of Kenya's National Parks and more
recently from spending time in South Africa.
Lorraine's
aim is to reproduce a glimmer of the magical and intricate
world of wildlife. Her drawings are highly detailed, close-up
studies created from close observation. Within each
composition she includes at least one insect and/or an element
of natural surroundings (printed along the side of each
drawing is the Latin name of the included insect). Careful to
ensure that any flora/insects are authentic to the habitat of
the featured animal, her intention is to depict the animal in
its natural environment without taking the onus away from the
animal itself.
In July
2002 her drawing 'Tenderness' won the Joyce Chaffin Memorial
Scroll as part of Roy Chaffin's annual 'Paint A Wildlife
Subject' competition. She is a member of The Wildlife Art
Society and the Natural World Art Group. Lorraine has recently
been elected as a member of 'The Society for Graphic Fine Art'
Lorraine is
available for commissions including Pet Portraits Examples of
her work are currently for sale and are accompanied by
Lorraine's source of inspiration for each drawing. |
